Double Dose of Sweating Today

What a day of health it has been for me....I do not recommend having an hour personal training session and a run on the same day. I didn't think it would be too bad, because my muscles are usually sore from personal training until the next day. Well....I guess I never really accounted for how fatigued the muscles get during the workout and probably don't fully recover until a day later which is when the muscles are all "full strength" again. I guess the positive is...I did complete my hour training session (it was a full day meaning squats and row machine and push ups and single leg bicep curls and all kinds of stuff) and i also completed a 3.1 mile run. I was hoping to do 4 miles tonight so the Jingle Bell Run would seem short, but doing the 3 miles tonight felt like 15 (not that i've ever run 15 but ughh). Well better to get out there and do it then to say "i wish i woulda"....

Okay time for my little soap box note...I know I have mentioned this before but tonight a new person joined the Runner's World crew and felt the need to say she "ONLY" did a 5K. Then another returner was introduced and kinda joked about training for a 5K. Well...some of us find the 5K a major accomplishment. I understand many people with the group enjoy the mega/ultra long distances and that's wonderful, I envy your endurance and ability. However, I still remember the first time I ran a mile strength...I know with the tue/thur group I would never feel comfortable sharing such a "petty" distance achievement. The joy of running is it's individuality and ability to have shared experiences with others, so no comparisons should be made...so I just want to say that running any distance even a mile should be celebrated and not belittled....

Okay enough of that. I am so excited for the Jingle Bell Run. I really want a sub 40 time so if you see me out there encourage me to move a little quicker....:)

Hi Sandra. I am one who probably at one time or another without thinking have downplayed 5Ks, and I poromise I never meant to downplay the awesome accomplishment it is to get out and run or walk or do any type of exercise. The guy who mentioned in a joking way about training for a 5K thought his quip was funny and might have been to a few people, and I am sure, knowing him, that he in no way meant to trivialize the accomplishments of new runners. It was unfortunately a poor choice for a joke in a crowd that he was unfamiliar with.

New runners are awesome in my books. I have said for over a year that the most inspirational runner I know is not one who has ran a lot of marathons, or is fast. This person was a couch potato who got off the couch, put in his miles, and has got himself into great shape. He has done well in several races of varying distances.

Sandra, I do appreciate you saying something about this. No newbie should feel sheepish about their abilities, but proud of their courage to start a new lifestyle.

Bravo. I am right there with you sister. I think anyone that is doing something is awesome. I too can only accomplish 5K's, quarter & half marathons (the half is a bit of a struggle for me) and I think that is pretty darn good for me and I do admire those that can go the distance beyond that but still am proud of myself as well as those in my category. keep up the good work and know that everyone with runnersworld is behind you 100%. sometimes it might feel like we are lost in the crowd when the others are being recognized for their big accomplishments but we are just as important and I never was made from anyone in the group feel any lesser but in my quirky mind I still felt like the lonely one and finally had to overcome that thought. I just wanted you to know I have been in your shoes and I still regress from time to time and Bobby has to pull me back up. I am glad you are working hard to achieve your goals so keep your chin up and your head held high.

Sandra, you are working out more than me. I think you are awesome. I will be out there tomorrow cheering you on and wishing you a great run. I am slow at 5k's (well all distances) but I get-er-dun. I hope for some new pr's as well this coming year.

Here's to all us 5K fillies!!!!! It is a MAJOR accomplishment and always makes me feel very proud! Especially since I didn't (make that couldn't) even run a block until I was 46!! Let's keep up the good work!!!! I'll see your smiling face at the next 5K :)
